One of Those Days

Today has been one of those days. You know the ones that nothing seems to go right. From the moment you wake up you are fighting to get things done and you feel like everything is pushing back. That has been my day today. Even though my day hasn't gone according to plan I am beyond thankful for today. I know that there are people receiving phone calls that will forever change their lives, people are holding their loved ones and saying "why us?", people are saying goodbye to the ones they love and planning funeral services. I have been on that side of the coin and I know life can change in a blink of an eye. I will forever look at life and situations differently. I now know that a day that seems to be falling apart really isn't, days where everything seems to be bad there is still so much good, days when you think "what else could go wrong?" so much can. My Mom passing has been the hardest thing I have ever had to go through, but I now see life with beautiful eyes. Ones where the sunrise seems brighter, my children's laugh can bring tears to my eyes and an "I love you" is never taken for granted.

This picture was taken last year on my birthday and it's still one of my favorites. There was so much happiness, laughter and love, after all isn't that what life is all about?
 XOXO

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday!! We are excited for a weekend where everyone is feeling better. The boys are almost back to normal and I'm getting there. We are going to take it easy this weekend, but brunch at our favorite spot with Grandpa and Great Grandma sounds pretty wonderful :) Here are a few things we've been loving this week!

#Smile its the #weekend! Love your #accessories..check out www.stelladot.co.uk/camillalh:

We love watching Ellen over here, I think she is so funny and love what she stands for. This video with Jimmy Kimmel is hilarious. If you need a laugh this video is for you!

I have been so grateful this week for essential oils. With everyone under the weather and not sleeping well they have saved the day.

I mentioned last week that I was reading The Magnolia Story and I can't recommend it enough. It is the first book I have ever finished in a day. I cried, laughed and found it incredibly inspirational.

I did this, preschool alphabet activity, with Kona and he loved it. It kept him really entertained and he was so proud of himself.

We made this buffalo chicken chili and loved it! It's also made in the slow cooker which is a bonus!

I hope you all have the best weekend! XOXO

Baby Shower Inspiration

Next weekend I'm throwing one of my best friends a baby shower and I couldn't be more excited! She is having a little boy and I can't wait to shower them with love. When I started looking for inspiration I immediately fell in love with a brunch/donut theme. I got so excited and started planning like crazy, because that's what I do! :)  There's going to be lots and lots of donuts, fruit, yogurt, muffins, coffee and a sparking juice bar. Here is the inspiration that got my party planning brain spinning.

What I Wore

Fashion has always been a big part of my life. I love the inspiration and creative outlet that it brings. Since having children and staying home fashion has taken a backseat. Most days I'm throwing something on and heading out the door. I need to start setting aside a little time for myself each morning. It always amazes me how much better I feel when I take the time to get ready, so I'm not sure why I don't make it a priority. I'm hoping to hold myself accountable and document each Wednesday an outfit or two from the week.

Shirt: Similar
Vest: Same
Jeans: Same
Boots: Similar

I highly recommend these white jeans. They are a great price, stretch just enough, but don't stretch out within an hour of wearing them. I have had them for about a year now and still love them!

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday! XOXO

Sick Kids

Today is a new day and I see the light at the end of the, everyone is sick, tunnel . J.D. got sick in the middle of last week, Kona started to get sick on Friday and Kai came down with it on Saturday. I have thankfully been well enough to take care of everyone, but don't feel 100% myself. Being a mom to two sick little boys, while J.D. worked, was rough and gave me a good dose of mom guilt. I wanted to cuddle them both all day, give them what they needed right when they needed it, but that wasn't possible. My lap just isn't big enough for both of them to cuddle/sleep on, they both needed something at the same time, which meant one of them was waiting, Kai would cry anytime I put him down and my mom guilt was building through it all. I felt like I wasn't giving each one, 100% of me and to be quit honest I had a short fuse at times. I had to remind myself multiple times that I was doing the best I could, because I was. Being a mom isn't easy, we all need to give ourselves grace because we are doing to best we can. The past couple of days haven't been easy, but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else, doing anything else, but loving on my babies.

A little brotherly love makes everyone feel better. XOXO

For My Mom

I have been thinking about starting a blog for years, but talked myself out of it every time. I didn't think I had much to bring to the table and offer others. The other night I was cooking dinner when a little voice said "Tell your story. Open up about what it means to lose a mom and be a mom." My mom has been gone now for a little over 2 years and it's time I open up and talk about the worst moments of my life.  The ones that still take my breath away, knock me down and never stay to far off my mind. Even though I have pain in my heart I have so many bright and beautiful things to write about. Raising little boys, celebrating birthdays, holidays, and all the wonderful moments in between. Life is incredibly beautiful and everyday my goal is to never let my family forget that. My hope is that this blog not only comforts me, but brings comfort and inspiration to someone else. There is so much life to live after losing a loved one and I hope my story conveys that.

She is gone
You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
David Harkins

For my mom and family I'm going to smile, open my eyes, love and go on. For her and all of you out there with a love for life this blog is for you. XOXO

Friday Favorites

It's Friday! We are so excited for the weekend and the nice weather that is coming with it! It's been a long winter around here, so we are ready for park play dates and picnics! Here are some things I've been loving this week.

Fresh flowers in the house is always a favorite around here. It also helps me believe the spring is right around the corner!

I grabbed some of these Munchkin Miracle Sippy Cups the other day and love them! No more puddles of water and milk on the floor!

I watch Ellen every day and just love her so much. She showed this video of two babies Face Timing each other and it's the cutest!

I'm a huge coffee drinker and this french press chai latte is on my weekend list.

We are making a playroom downstairs and I think this diy storage desk would be perfect.

One of my sweet friends gave me The Magnolia Story to read and I love it so far!

I hope you all have the best weekend! XOXO

Valentine's Day 2017

Our Valentine's day was so fun, but also heart breaking. Kai had to get shots, so we spent most of our day cuddling, trying to make him happy and feeling better. It didn't stop us though from having a festive day and making lots of fun memories! We started our day off with presents, balloons and a pink heart shaped breakfast. Kona loves having a fun breakfast and he gets so excited. Kai just loves breakfast in general :)

Before Kai's doctor's appointment, we delivered cookies we made, to family and friends. We made these and these and they were delicious! I thought we had chocolate chips, but we didn't and they were still so good. Kona loves helping me bake and cook, it's one of our favorite things to do together.

The rest of our day was spent playing with balloons, drinking out of paper heart straws and reading Valentine's day books!

For dinner we made heart shaped pizza and a cherry berry cobbler. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I love desert's like this.

I hope you all had the best Valentine's day celebrating the ones you love.
And for fun, here is my smallest love last year on Valentine's day!
I love this sweet boy so much! XOXO

Show and Tell Tuesday-Introducing My Loved Ones

Happy Valentine's day!! I love Valentine's day and can't wait to spoil the ones I love!  Today I'm linking up with Andrea for Show and Tell Tuesday. Today's topic is introducing loved ones, which is perfect timing considering I published my first post yesterday!

J.D. and I have been married for 6 years and have been together for 11. We met the month after I graduated high school and have been together ever since. He is an amazing husband and I'm truly a lucky girl. Here are 5 fun facts about the man I love!

1. Since he was little the river has been his happy place. Two years ago he made his dreams come true and became a fishing guide. Fishing is such a huge part of our lives, Kona even knows how to tie a fly.
2. He puts French fries on his bbq chicken fajitas.
3. He wears a hat at all times.
4. Criminal Minds is his favorite show.
5. He has the biggest heart and will help anyone at anytime.

Kona is 3 years old and the sweetest little boy. He is always thinking about others and wants to be just like his dad when he grows up. Here are 5 fun facts about our sweet boy!

1. He loves Dinosaurs and knows all sorts of things about them.
2. If Kai is crying Kona comes running to sing him Wheels On The Bus.
3. He is very musical and loves to play drums, guitar and sing.
4. He wants a Penguin and Otter for pets.
5. He asks me multiple times a week if I need a white mocha. He knows the way to my heart!

Kai is a year old and he's our wild one! He is so sweet and want to be held or cuddled most of the day, but when he's not cuddling he's running threw the house getting into anything he can. Here are 5 fun facts about our sweet and wild boy!

1. He is in love with all animals and is the first to notice a bird or rabbit in the yard. He must give the dogs dozens of kisses and hugs a day.
2. He loves dancing which consists of clapping and spinning around in a circle.
3. He is always trying to steal a sip of coffee.
4. He loves to brush his teeth and wants his toothbrush anytime we're in the bathroom.
5. He is the best eater and the worst sleeper.

These three have my whole heart and I love them to the moon and back. XO

Hide and Seek-Valentine's Day Edition

Over the weekend we decided to get a little festive with some red and pink paper hearts. Both boys love to play hide and seek and it will keep them entertained for quit some time, so I knew they would love to find hearts all over the house. I drew 12 hearts on each piece of paper, cut them out, and started hiding. They had a blast running around finding them, but Kona loved hiding them and having me find them the most. He was so proud of himself and would tell me where half of them were, before I even started looking :) I loved how we could all do it together and I wasn't worried about Kai breaking something or putting a small object in his mouth. It was also easy clean up, which was a bonus!

And right in the middle of finding paper hearts, these two melted my heart. XOXO
