Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! We had such a great week. We spent it with friends, did crafts, enjoying the beautiful weather and had our first fire of the year! This weekend will be pretty low key, which is just the way we like it! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and gets to enjoy time with family and friends.

Saturday
Saturday night we had our first fire of the year! We let Kona stay up past his bedtime and have a roasted marshmallow. He could not have more excited and now wants to have a special night every night. It was the perfect way to end the day and definitely one of our favorite things to do.
Sunday
The weather was absolutely perfect on Sunday so the boys and I headed out for a walk. Kona's mission was to find a dinosaur :) Needless to say he didn't find one, but he sure was entertained by the idea.
Monday
This cuddle bug fell asleep on me Monday morning after reading a couple books. It was so sweet and I savored every minute.
Tuesday
I finally made a Everyday Events Facebook page! I'm planning on posting lot's of pictures, videos, funny stories of the boys, and behind the scenes moments. I would love for you to check it out!
Wednesday
This shirt fits Kona's personality perfectly. He has the biggest heart and I couldn't be more proud of him. He is always concerned for other people, loves to cuddle, wants to help in any way he can, and tells us how much he loves us multiple times a day. This sweet boy has my whole heart.
Thursday
I saw this bunny garland the other day and loved it! I got the garland in the dollar section at Target and cut out the bunnies from felt. The whole thing cost $6 and was super fun and easy to make! (It is longer then this, but it's in our hall so it wasn't easy to get a picture of the whole thing.)

I also found this article yesterday, about confessions of a stay-at-home mom and I laughed so hard! This part of the article is so me, my love for coffee runs deep and I drink it all day long!

What I Wore

Happy Wednesday! The weather around here has been beautiful, which makes getting dressed so much easier. When I don't have to put on a million layers, I'm more motivated to get ready. Anyone else? The first outfit is one I wore on Saturday running errands and going out to dinner with family. I love that it looks put together, but I felt like I was wearing sweats. It doesn't get much better than that! I highly recommend these pants, they are so comfortable and made me feel great.

I love graphic t-shirts, they are so fun and easy to throw on and go. Sometimes as a mom you need these types of outfits in your closet. This shirt was my husbands, but it shrunk so bad he gave it to me. Total win for me!

My 10 Favorite Pictures

One of my favorite things to do is look through pictures and reminisce about all the amazing times we have had. I remember being a little girl and sitting on my parent's living room floor looking through stacks of pictures. It brought me so much happiness and joy. I love that pictures not only capture the big moments in life, but the everyday moments that might otherwise be forgotten. I never want to forget all the special moments we have created and I want my boys to look back and see their whole lives documented. One day when J.D. and I are no longer here, I hope these pictures fill their hearts and show them how truly loved they were.

I have so many favorite pictures, but these are 10 that bring a big smile to my face and make my heart skip a beat.
Our first dance as husband and wife.
J.D. holding Kona the day he was brought into the world.
Pumpkin patch maternity pictures.
One day old Kai.
Kai's newborn pictures, I cried the first time I saw this picture.
Kona has always adored Kai.
A summer evening at the lake.
They were both in love with these cows.
Little toes in the grass.
Going on a hay ride with two of my favorite boys.
These are the days I have always dreamed of and I'm so lucky to share our everyday events with you.

Being Kind to Yourself While Your Heart Heals

In the weeks after my Mom passed, our Executive Director at work, was having to say goodbye to her father. I remember walking into her office to let her know I was there for her and to give her some comfort and support. I had all these things I wanted to tell her, but the only thing I could get out between the sobs was, "Be kind to yourself." Four simple yet powerful words. These words were spoken to me often while my Mom was dying and they made all the difference in the world. I'm not one to give myself grace. I'm extremely hard on myself and I don't know when to stop or slow down.  It made me feel validated and if I'm being completely honest, I know those words saved me. I'm not quite sure where I would be if I wouldn't have taken the time to grieve and deal with my emotions as they came. Being kind to yourself sounds so simple, but it's far from easy when you have an extraordinary amount of pain in your heart. The impact grief has on your whole body-emotionally, spiritually, physically and mentally-is substantial. It wasn't always easy making myself a priority, while caring for Kona, and being a wife, but I did the best I could to give my body what it needed.

I went for walks.
Read books.
Took long baths or showers.
Went for drives.
Talked with family and friends.
Enjoyed time in the sun.
Painted my nails.
Went to group counseling.
Did yoga.
Treated myself to coffee or lunches out.
Took time to be by myself.
Wrote in a journal.
Visited my Mom's grave.
Prayed and prayed some more.

For anyone who is losing a loved one or who recently has, I urge you to please be kind to yourself.  Show yourself love, acceptance and grace. Please know you are amazing, what you are going through is trying and not meant to be fixed in a day, week or month. It will take time and please take all the time you need, for your heart is broken and your world is shattered.
You are in my heart and I'm sending you all my love and support.
XOXO

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! We are so excited for the weekend and to spend time with family. I'm ready to kick back, hang out with my boys and enjoy the beautiful weather.  Here is a recap of our week and some of my favorite moments!

Friday
On Friday we celebrated St. Patrick's day with lots of green food, drinks and fun. You can read all about our day here.

Saturday
On Saturday Kona and I went to a birthday party for one of his best friends. All the kids were asked to dress up and this sweet boy wanted to be a dinosaur. No surprise there! :) He played pin the tail on the donkey for the first time and it was so cute to watch. They also had a piñata, which made his whole day!

Sunday
Sunday evening my family met for dinner and my Grandma was wearing two different shoes! The best part was that we didn't notice until we were leaving. HA! I wonder how many people at the restaurant noticed and didn't say anything. My Grandma is such a good sport and was crying she was laughing so hard. She is the best and I love her so much!

Monday
Monday we welcomed the first day of spring with craft time at the library and ice cream! I also shared our spring bucket list. I love doing these for each season. It makes me so excited for all the fun that is to come over the next couple of months!

Tuesday
I made these wooden Easter eggs this week and love the way they turned out! They are the perfect addition to our spring décor and look so pretty on the dinning room table.

Wednesday
J.D. has been working long hours and we miss him so much, so yesterday I loaded up the boys and made the 2 hour drive to see him. We grabbed some lunch and headed to the river to throw rocks and go for a walk. It was a beautiful day and just what we all needed.

Thursday
It rained all morning yesterday, but by the afternoon the weather was perfect. We headed over to the park where the boys ran and ran and didn't want to leave. This smile melts my heart!

DIY Wooden Easter Eggs

Last week I stumbled upon this DIY faux concrete eggs and fell in love. I knew I wanted to make something like it, but didn't want to spend extra on concrete paint. I decided to use acrylic paint and love how they turned out!
Materials needed:
Wood Eggs- Target for $3
Paint-Hobby Lobby for $1.50
Moss-Hobby Lobby for $5.99
Wooden Box or Bowl-I found mine at a Antique store in town

It didn't take much time to paint the eggs which was perfect. I was able to paint them while the boys napped and then touched them up that evening. My original plan was to put glitter on the bottom half, but I loved how they turned out and decided to leave them. They are also nestled in the moss so I'm not sure how much would show. I layered some plastic bags in the bottom of the box to give it a little height, put the moss on top, placed the eggs where I wanted them and then added the grass and wood details.
They are so fun for spring, but also work for Easter which I love. I can keep them out for the next couple of month and won't have to worry about putting them away after Easter.
This easy spring craft is a total win in my book!

What I Wore

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a great week. We are headed to the river today to soak up some sun and make some memories!
Here is a little glimpse at what I wore this past week. Thursday I went to a class at the Home Depot where we made a vertical herb garden. These shoes are so comfy, my feet didn't hurt at all even after standing for a couple of hours.

On Saturday we went to a birthday party and I wore shorts for the first time this year! I was so excited and can't wait to wear more spring/summer clothes!

Yesterday I ran some errands with the boys and took them to craft time at our local library. It was beautiful in the morning, but by the time we left for the library it was starting to spit rain. I got the jacket last fall from H&M and love it. I love the statement it makes, especially with this top.

Our St. Patrick's Day

I hope everybody had a wonderful St. Patrick's day! Here's a little recap of how we celebrated.
It has become a tradition over here to have green pancakes and milk for breakfast. Kona thinks having green milk is the best and now thinks this should be an every day thing. :) I topped Kona's pancakes with some Lucky Charms, which he's never had before, and he was beside himself with excitement. I got several hugs and thank you mom's for that one!
After breakfast we got ready and headed to our local book store for a Leprechaun themed story time. The story was super cute and Kai even sat through it. He loves to read, but he has to be in the mood so I didn't know what he would do. Usually he wants to run around the kids section and look at everything so I consider this a huge win!

Later that afternoon, after naps, the weather was beautiful so we headed outside for snack time.
The boys wouldn't eat the kiwi which was fine with me because I love it! It was so nice to have a snack I actually got to eat, usually the boys steal whatever I'm eating. #momlife
True fact: On Thursday I locked myself in the bathroom, at 3:00pm, to eat a bowl of cereal. I hadn't eaten all day and mama needed food! Even as I ate my cereal Kai was on the other side of the door wanting some. :)
After snack time we played outside until dinner, I made this pasta dish and it was so good! Pasta and green beer made this girl so happy! It was a wonderful way to end a fun filled day!

XOXO

Spring Bucket List

Happy first day of Spring! I feel like I have said it a million times, but we are so ready for spring. This winter has been long and rough. We have had lots of snow and frigid temperatures that make it impossible to go outside. I have been dreaming of dinner on the barbeque, watching the boys run through the grass and planting flowers for months. Spring does something wonderful for the soul and we can't wait to soak up every moment.
Today I'm sharing our spring bucket list and would love to hear yours too!
1. Jump in the rain puddles.
2. Feed the ducks.
3. Have a picnic in the park.
4. Make a bird feeder.
5. Fill the house with Tulips (my favorite flower).
6. Spring crafts craft day.
7. Start a windowsill herb garden.
8. Plant flowers and a vegetable garden.
9. Decorate Easter eggs.
10. Outdoor Easter egg hunt.
11. Blow bubbles.
12. Go fishing.
13. Make banana bread.

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday and happy St. Patrick's day!! Today we are celebrating by having a festive breakfast, going to a leprechaun themed story time and drinking green beer! Last night I overheard Kona tell J.D. "Dad, St. Patrick's day is almost here! That means you and Mom drink green beer and Kai and I drink green milk!!" I was laughing so hard and love that he has my holiday loving heart!
For Friday Favorites I thought it would be fun to share a favorite moment from each day.

Saturday
Kona was watching a cartoon Saturday morning when Kai crawled up on the couch and cuddled next to him. It was the sweetest, even thought the moment didn't last long.

Sunday
This cutie and I went and get J.D. and me coffee Sunday morning and he insisted on dressing himself. I love that he's wanting to pick out his clothes and this outfit cracked me up. Rain boots (with no rain in sight), a cowboy hat, pajamas, and a plaid coat. I love this sweet boy so much!!

Monday
I got to sit in bed on Monday morning, drink a cup of coffee and finish Jodi Picoult's new book. It was a wonderful way to start the day! I have been a big Jodi Picoult fan for a long time and this book is one of her best. I urge everybody to read it, you won't be disappointed.

Tuesday
On Tuesday I wrote about some easy St. Patrick's day crafts I did with the boys. We had the best time making these rainbows, they were super easy which is a huge plus!

Wednesday
These two reading in my bed was a favorite moment of the week. I love hearing Kona's little voice read to me while Kai talks gibberish! I can't get enough of them!

Thursday
My wonderful friend Kery and I went to the Home Depot for their montly class. We made these vertical flower gardens that I can't wait to put flowers in! We had the best time and can't wait to go again next month. If you have a Home Depot in your town I highly recommend these classes.
I hope you all have a wonderful day and weekend! If you need me I'll be sitting on my patio with a green beer in hand! ;) XOXO
