My Favorite Ways To Unwind & Recharge

With Mother's Day right around the corner, I wanted to share how I unwind and recharge my battery. Motherhood and life in general is full of stress, exhaustion, uncertainties and craziness. To combat some of the stress, I make sure to carve out time for myself in the mornings, before the boys are awake and again in the late afternoon. Taking 15-30 minutes in the middle of my day makes a world of difference. I hope, especially this week, that we all take a little extra time to relax and unwind.

Coffee in the peace and quiet. Drinking coffee while the house is quiet is my favorite thing to do. I try and wake up an hour before the boys to have some me time. Sometimes I drink coffee and start checking things off my to-do list and other times I just hang out and enjoy the moment. I have noticed that if I don't get this time every morning my day feels off and it doesn't go as smoothly.
Gardening. There is something about watering flowers, digging in the dirt and picking veggies that is incredibly rewarding and relaxing. The boys also love helping me and I love spending the quality time with them.
Create something. Whether it's baking, coloring, doing a craft with the boys or making something for myself, being creative is a wonderful way to unwind.
Read. I have always been a big reader and find it so relaxing. Even if it's just 10 minutes while the boys are napping, it's a great way to have some me time.
Grab a coffee and go for a drive or walk. Listening to a podcast, drinking coffee and getting out of the house does wonders. I feel like a whole new person when we get back home and I'm able to think more clearly. Going for a drive or walk also helps the boys recharge their batteries.
Relax in the hammock. Swinging in the hammock with the sun on my face is so relaxing. The boys and I love reading books, watching the clouds or telling stories.
A drink on the patio. Drinking a margarita and eating chips and guacamole, while watching the sunset is perfection. This is definitely one of my favorite ways to spend the summer nights.
Sit by the fire. Nothing calms me down faster than sitting by the fire. It also makes me super sleepy which is a win-win in my book!
Enjoy dinner after the boys are in bed. About once a month J.D. will grab us dinner, from one of our favorite restaurants, while I put the kids to bed. Sitting down, enjoying a meal and having one-on-one time is something I look forward to every month.
A movie and wine. To be completely honest, I rarely make it through a movie without falling asleep (this mama is tired!), but I do enjoy my extra large glass of wine. ;)

What are your favorite ways to unwind & recharge? I would love any suggestions!
XOXO

  1. I personally love a hot hour long bubble bath. I then do some meditation and yoga to help me unwind. Really loved all these ideas! You go, mama!

    1. A bath and yoga sounds amazing! I really love doing yoga, but I never seem to make it a priority. I should really work on that!

  2. Reading is one of my favorite ways to unwind too! I also like sitting in quiet since I have 2 boys and there isn't a lot of quiet when they're awake:-)

    1. Thanks for stopping by! Some of my favorite podcasts are The School of Greatness with Lewis Howes, Mom Blog School, The Robin Sharma Mastery Sessions and The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey. One podcast that I can't wait to start is S-Town. I have heard such great things about it, but just need to find the time to listen!

  4. I want a hammock!! But you totally hit the nail on the head, creating things, enjoying some quiet time, falling asleep to an uninterrupted movie, all so enjoyable! I need to work on turning off my "mom brain" when I try to relax, because the entire time I'm thinking, "what else do I need to be doing right now?" lol. Love your post and subscribing now :)
